Suncoast Animal Rescue recently took a trip to Puerto Rico to help animals that had been displaced because of the hurricane. They were able to rescue over 100 cats and dogs. They also took food, vaccinations and supplies to shelters that were overwhelmed.
Annette Detloff is the Director of Development at Suncoast Animal League. She stated that most people are not thinking about adopting a pet right now. Many people left hurricane before the hurricane. That is why many animals have been put in shelters.
The people who work at the shelter are also stressed out. They lack food, and many of them still do not have any electricity. However, they still dedicate themselves to caring for the animals. Because Suncoast Animal Rescue saw how overwhelmed the shelters were, they promised to come back and take as many animals as they could.
Suncoast was not sure about how much room they had in their shelter. Fortunately, someone allowed them to rent a warehouse. They will not have to pay anything for the warehouse for one month.
The team is currently preparing animals to be adopted. They are in need of people who can volunteer at the shelter. People who do not have time to volunteer are encouraged to donate money or food. Even though Suncoast rescued animals, they still stress the importance of helping people.
